Stripped of context and function: new arrangements in Lindsay Lawson’s Agency at 8eleven

, 1 May 2017

Lindsay Lawson presented solo exhibition Agency at Toronto’s 8eleven which opened April 19 and is running to May 3, 2017.

The installation, a darkened blue and immersive space, explores objecthood as it exists both physically and virtually. An accompanying text by Erin Reznick describes her interest in archaeological imagination as presenting, “an intentional collection of things, obscured by darkness, stripped of context and functionality.” Each object, holding its own social relations and pre-existing language, come together to form new arrangements.

Spanning film, installation, photo, sculpture, performance and text, the Berlin-based artist “investigates states of infatuation” with the objects she chooses to engage with,  and taking on new forms of interpretation.**
