Henry Gunderson presents solo exhibition Emancipation Affirmations at Stockholm’s Loyal Gallery, which opened March 18 and is running to April 22.
The press release describes the New York-based artists installation as “a series of associations [where] traces of human anatomy, and objects interjected to function symbolically.” Bringing together seemingly unrelated material that sing in the same concert of childhood nostalgia is explored within memory and psychology.
The exhibition consists of mainly paintings that range in content from faces on flying airplanes, a piece of workshop machinery in soft focus with spectators in the background and random objects floating in space. One audio piece ‘Emancipation Affirmations’ (shown below) plays on an endless cassette tape, providing the ambient backdrop when viewing the works.
