American Medium is hosting the afterparty of the launch of the fourth season of Mia Ardito and Máire Witt O’Neill‘s Sad Girls Club TV video series at New York’s The Wu Room, 93 Bowery (Underneath the Wyndham Hotel) on June 4.

Offering six new half hour episodes “rich with the language of capitalism and unauthorized branded content”, the screening is on at Anthology Film Archives of a project which carries on from previous seasons that have “lived as the left over internet ephemera of an imaginary reality television show”. Here, the satire subverts the demonisation and celebration of women behaving ‘badly’ on popular network TV. It takes its protagonists out from their private world of the ‘Sad Girls’ House‘ to the public real world of Long Island —”a hotel, a local nightclub, a 7Eleven, Jones Beach”.

Through an improvisatoinal process, the artists explore layered realities constructed from captured elements existing between narrative and role play as distinctions between director, performer, character and ‘person’ become blurred in a series where contestants stand to win “a cash prize or an unpaid internship”.
