Hannah Black opens her first solo exhibition at London’s Arcadia Missa, titled Not You and running from October 2 to October 31.
The show brings together Black’s video practice with new installation works, guided “by her attempts to think about a politics that doesn’t rely on the structure of analogy” often used by white culture to excuse or explain away political transposition and cultural appropriation.
Examining the “politics of disidentification, of a maddening, exhilarating pressure on language and representation”, Black explores gender, materiality, race, capitalism—all in the belief that “this politics against language is also a politics for the radical mutation of language”.
