Transounds, ‘Fluid’ mix

Anything ‘trans’ is alright by us. That’s whether its a much-sampled sound byte of tragic vogue icon Venus Xtravaganza from Paris is Burning, an extended porno transposition on Omar S’ ‘Look Hear Watch’ or the Transcendental Meditation vibe of everything David Lynch touches in ‘The Big Dream’. That’s how London-based “playlist curators, DJs and label” Transounds manage this ‘Fluid’ mix, a perfectly conceptualised exchange between aqnb’s transmedia, transdisciplinary concerns and Transounds’ own cross-pollinating oeuvre that has travelled disco, ‘foodie’ and even Inuit culture in past mixes.

In fact, Transounds is run by Jordanne and Cagney, a gender-confused boy-girl name combo in itself, that transcends (there’s that prefix again) categorisation and allows for a track listing featuring Blondes, Ebony Bones! and Thom Yorke’s IDM side-project Atoms For Peace into a mix that works. They host a show on London Fields Radio and head a homonymous label that released Dirty Basin‘s Anima EP earlier this year:

As we experience new situations, we are influenced by our surroundings. The information we absorb can then be used to shape our character and the image we choose to portray to the people around us at any given time. We chose artists and songs to tell a story that reflects how people’s identities are constantly transforming and also show how important understanding this fluidity is to understanding ourselves.”
