One of our quickies! Big Reminder for those of you not leaving London this summer as the 19th edition of Southbank Centre’s Meltdown festival will open tomorrow…

Antony Hegarty joins the legend-list of festival directors ( David Bowie, John Peel…) to create a twelve-day cultural agenda that very few other UK summer festivals can offer, a list of iconic names who’ve helped him shape his life and art.

Antony’s meltdown, starting with Planningtorock and Light Asylum and finishing with William Basinski

It all started in 1993 with George Benjamin, and every year big names in art have followed in Meltdown’s direction , hand-picking their ideal festival by inviting their favourite artists to play, perform and exhibit their work @ SBCenter. For this year they’ve prepared another eclectic shot which includes some of our big favorites… from the opening concert by Janine Rostron’s project Planningtorock (who we interviewed last year upon her new album release) to Serbian performer Marina Abramović, experimental musician William Basinski who’ll be performing his study on decay “Disintegration Loops” or Antony’s beloved Buffy Sainte-Marie.

A big mix, an amazingly varied hotchpotch which Antony describes as his dreamed “constellation of courageous artists”, and that hopefully you’ll manage to see in between each Olympic event. More info and full agenda this way.
