2012 Vimeo Festival + Awards

, 16 December 2011

The first edition was …. quite a success. It’s been more than a year since Vimeo & their community decided to have their very own Festival + Awards, and everyone has been anxiously awaiting to repeat what took place at the SVA theater in New York City in 2010.

We now finally have the details for the 2012 and 2nd edition….. pretty much the same but more prizes as new categories have been introduced jumping from 9 to 13 (adding fashion, action sports, advertising and lyrical).

Taking place next summer (June 7-9th) in NY, the Vimeo Festival will attempt once again to showcase & bring together the most creative and original videos online, as well as the individuals who make them. But in order to have a few great days of talks, conferences, workshops and screenings … well… they need material right?

That’s why they’ve just opened the submission page for their contest that goes from last Tuesday until February 20th. To submit your piece and be considered you’ll have to pay the same fee as last year (20$ or 5$ if V.Plus user) and be an original work that has not premiered on-line before July 31st 2010 ….pretty much either a work you’ve never shown to the world before that date or a new video of your own harvest especially for the contest….).

The’re are a few other considerations you should take into account per category (regarding length, format….), but we’ll let you discover those on your own. For now, all we can say is that some of the judges have already been announced (including last year’s best animation award winner Eran Hilleli or Andy Bruntel.. the director behind Liar’s “Scissor”) , and remind you the obvious… a grand prize (25K) and 13 category prizes of $5000 each. Tempting?

Here’s a recap on what happened last year, although you may want to visit the 2010 dedicated festival site with all the winners, videos and +++
