Not much bzz around this quartet from east-London outside the UK, although now (maybe) after the Burn ad that circulates around the internet these days their catchy rockabylly Wor will hopefully sound everywhere….

This is the video of Wor, the track used for Burn’s “Ride“, one of those psychedelic DIY videos with layer 80s effects that are so trendy lately. But I’m not here to talk about their year old single and 3 month old video, today I’m presenting one of our new favourite bands: Django Django.

They are Dave Maclean, Vincent Neff, Tommy Grace & Jimmy Dixon who met at art school in Edinburgh and now live in fashionable east London. The Dalston boys describe themselves as “The triple distilled essence (and sensibility) of an artistic huddle of mischievous musicals” … “rollicking along sing-a-longs, galloping into disco sunsets like whisky-addled and leather-saddled bandits on the stolen backs of prairie wild mustangs”. Modern cowboys that definitely do not sound like the Belgian 3-fingered jazz genius Django Reinhardt.

Their mix of surfy indie-folk spaghetti-western style with electronic beats is one of the most catchy sounds  we’ve heard leately… perhaps because it cannot easily be categorised as pure electro-punk or funk-pop….and as we’re very nice people & like to share with love our great discoveries rather than keeping them for ourselves, here’s quite some amount of tunes & videos from this great Scottish band.

Django Django – WOR by The Bonjour Branch

Despite having released their first single “Wor/Skies over Cairo” last March” they’re still polishing their first LP which should be out hopefully before the end of the year.

and as a last gift watch their 2 part live broadcast “BlackBox Session” over the web on 01.06.10 @ the Roundhouse in London, directed by Will Hanke & Jamie Roberts
