Sweet nostalgic LCD dreams

[tweetmeme] After weeks of leaks, deleted rapidshare files & pirate streamings Mr Murphy has decided that there’s no better way to stop the rights battles, rumours & leaked mp3s than making the album available on his band’s official website. So yes, you can listen, judge & carefully dream LCD Soundsystem’s latest percussion diarrhoea.

This is happening” is the third studio album from the NY formation leaded by James Murphy, a reaffirmation of LCD’s delicacy, power, fruitful jauntiness & mastering of those post-anything samplers. Don’t expect another “album of the decade”. This is happening continues where “Sound of Silver” left, no big surprises, but many more sweet melancholic tunes for open-eyed dreams.

James Murphy knows the business way better than the average musician; that’s why he’s using exactly the same successful formula that made his previous albums a huge indie revolution last decade.

A month ago we were hit by a very danceable up beat tune which has become some sort of tradition in their endless universe of bursting singles: Drunk Girls. Following the path of “Daft Punk is playing @ my house” or “North American Scum” these drunk girls & guys have the pure LCD essence bringing the 90s to a drug loop of personal confessions & hope….

Now we have the full package from 1 to 9 carefully & perfectly arranged, just like the previous 2 albums.

Starting with a nearly 9 minute opener which serves as the perfect appetizer, “Dance Yrself Clean” is a constant reminder of our previous errors that steadily evolves into a bombastic cascade of petitions saturated with their characteristic synth rythms. LCD are back for good.

Back with more of those lengthy tracks you can’t get tired off. Like the YMO-influenced “You wanted a hit”, a parody of it’s own hit-production machinery & an ironic smile at the industry… “we don’t do hits” he claims, you do Mr Murphy and this one might be too long & dreamy for a dancefloor but we’re sure you can make us float on your boat with a clever video. You “try & try” and it always ends up kinda right.

The most rebel & addictive LCD Soundsystem is also there, pure electro-pop sounds & frenetic vibes with Nancy Whang claiming their party invincibility in tracks like One Touch or Pow Pow, perfect guns for ending a concert in a glorious way.

And how do you end this round-trip in the best possible way?

Coming back “Home” of course, communicating directly with the listener & encouraging everyone with the happiest of messages embedded in one of their instrumental orgies. How many orgasms have you had?

Oh look they just released what seems to be the video for their first single “Drunk Girls”. Or what it rather seems like a “we have no time for an elaborated clip by an expensive director; let’s improvise in an OK GO soft of way”.

I first saw LCD Soundsystem when they’re were starting to ride the “cool” wave of a fresh new indie coming from NY under a label not hugely known…. “DFA” back in April 2005. The concert at the small (nearly familiar) Madrid venue “La Riviera” was one of the most chaotic, spontaneous & addictive experiences I’ve had. Hot Chip were there too, pre-heating the scene…. although no one seem to notice. We’ll be seeing them again in 2 weeks when they come here to the UK, this time backed up by a duo with huge potential: Yacht. Hope they’ll bring the venue down again.

We honestly think that you’ll love it. Nothing oracular-spectacular, more like a plain, sometimes tasteless fuck. But you know it’s always good… so head this way for a full dreamy experience and experience the fusion of decades of sampler heritage. Good Job Mr Murphy. Next.
