Personally I love Braun’s razors, their design has always been one of the best  electronic gadgets of all time, slim, minimalistic but undoubtedly a great razor. For over 40 years (1955 – 1995) Dieter Rams designed or oversaw the design of over 500 products for the German electronics manufacturer Braun, as well as furniture for Vitsœ.

We could say that Dieter Rams has elegantly become as one of the most influential industrial designers of the late 20th century by defining a legible, yet rigorous visual language for its products… audio equipment, calculators, shavers, shelving systems…. each item holds a special place in the history of industrial and furniture design and has established Dieter Rams as one of the most influential designers of the late 20th century.

Dieter Rams created ten rules of design more than twenty years ago. Sometimes referred to as “the ten commandments,” they are just as relevant today: Good design is innovative. Good design makes a product useful. Good design is aesthetic. Good design helps a product to be understood. Good design is unobtrusive. Good design is honest. Good design is durable. Good design is consistent to the last detail. Good design is environmentally friendly. Good design is as little design as possible.

This exhibition is the first UK definitive retrospective of Dieter Rams’ career in over 12 years (until next March 7th). The show will then travel to Frankfurt’s Museum of Applied Arts in May 2010.
