In less than a year Vimeo has passed from 75k daily unique visitors to more than 400.000. They might not be those 100million Youtube has, they might not rank 3rd worldwide (474 instead) but what they lack in quantity they make up for in quality and creativity.
You certainly can also find “funny cats” videos on Vimeo, the difference is that you get 440 results compared to the 135.000 from Youtube (although we should also take into account the number of videos hosted in each site: 1,5million vs more than 150m).
But Vimeo is not only about content. The “community” effect is just as developed (if not more) than on Youtube or Dailymotion. A virtual world, community forums, contests … simple but effective things that other platforms (like Youtube) have also tried but not implemented in such a successful way.
Creative, creative and more creative, that’s the editorial vision and image given by the Vimeo team, to such a point that it has quickly become the high-quality standard for any imaginative video that worth it… films, documentaries, shorts and loads of animation; and not only that, companies are also turning Vimeo into their favourite advertising channel.
